Do it Now!

The other evening I was on my way to hit the sack early after a long hard day at the office. My son, who was seated at the table doing his homework, asked me to help him with his history lesson. I was tired and I  wanted to say no so bad but instead I sat down and listened to him read the assigned pages and answer the assigned questions, which took about half an hour.

Every day, in America, children's educational needs are being rejected by their parents. For the most part, these are all loving parents who would give their lives to protect their children. They simply have not learned how important a part they play in their child's future. A mother saying "I'm cooking" is rejection. A father saying "I'm too busy" is rejection. A brother saying "Do your own homework" is rejection. Children do well in school when their parents pay attention to school work. Children do great in school when parents pay lots of attention to school work.

As I look back on that evening I am proud of myself for doing the right thing at the right time. It wasn't always this way. I can remember when I was a young punk with my first child. Back in those days I almost always did the wrong thing most of the time. I thank the lord that we get wiser as we grow older.
